Actually... I have no idea who the Muffin Man is.
Children is most Spanish-speaking countries are not familiar with The Muffin Man like many children who grow up in the US are. This clip from the movie Shrek has Gingie asking, "Do you know the Muffin Man?" Obviously, this reference would be completely lost upon many native Spanish-speakers.
When Shrek was dubbed ("doblado") in Spanish, the writers had to change some of the references made to English children's stores and rhymes. In this version doblado, Gingie/Jinebra asks Lord Farquaad if he knows Pin Pon, instead of the Muffin Man.
So... Who is Pin Pon?
Pin Pon is Latino children's song (click on the button below to see a translation of the lyrics). This children's song was turned into a children's TV program in the 1960's and 1970's.
